U.S. Taxes, Tariffs & Import Thresholds

For U.S. customers • Effective 1 September 2025

From 1 September 2025, all international orders to the United States will be subject to import duties, taxes, and processing fees. Most customers should expect to pay around 35% of their order value in additional charges to release goods from U.S. Customs.

1) Will I have to pay taxes or tariffs when my order arrives?

Yes. The United States is removing the de minimis threshold of $800 for all international commercial shipments on 1 September 2025. All orders, regardless of value, may be charged duties, taxes, and processing fees on entry.

  • Federal & State import tax — varies by item and origin; a typical order is ~25%.
  • Tariffs (apparel) — typically ~10%, higher for some materials/origins.
  • Processing fees — DHL Express often advances duties/taxes, then charges 2% of the advanced amount, with a $17 minimum.

These charges aren’t collected at checkout. DHL or U.S. Customs will contact you for payment before delivery.

Plan for ~35% total in import charges. On smaller purchases, the $17 minimum is a larger share (e.g. a £35 tie would still incur the $17 fee).

We’ll continue to provide full customs documentation. Please factor these costs into your order.

2) Can I avoid charges by placing multiple smaller orders?

No. With the threshold ending, splitting orders doesn’t guarantee duty-free entry. U.S. Customs may combine packages if they believe they were split to avoid duties, especially if:

  • Orders are placed very close together
  • They ship together or arrive the same day
  • Recipient details match across shipments

To avoid delays, place complete orders where possible.

3) Why can’t you declare the wholesale price instead of what I paid?

We’re legally required to declare the actual purchase price paid at checkout. Declaring a lower value is undervaluing and is illegal. Risks include:

  • Delays or seizure of your package
  • Fines
  • Customs refusing delivery
