Herringbone

Herringbone, also called broken twill weave, describes a distinctive V-shaped weaving pattern. It is distinguished from a plain chevron by the break at reversal, which makes it resemble a broken zigzag. The pattern is called herringbone because it resembles the skeleton of a herring fish.

Fantastic, classic-looking waistcoat
Review by
I'd been looking for a well-made waistcoat for some time. So when I came across Walker Slater's Edinburgh store, I instantly fell in love. I've always liked vintage, dark-academia-style outfits, but I've always felt like department-store waistcoats simplified the garment a bit too much. Walker Slater's pieces have a more authentic quality to them.

Considering the prices of other similar brands, this waistcoat was the best value for my money. The fabric is wonderfully soft while still keeping the waistcoat's structure, which itself is a very flattering fit. I particularly love how the lapels make the Iona waistcoat look smarter (though unfortunately, I notice that the lapels tend to get flattened/covered up when paired with the Iona jacket).

This Bracken waistcoat I bought is a lovely mossy green with subtle flecks of brown and blue in the herringbone weave. It pairs great with my dark grey Glen check trousers. The champagne-coloured back adds a unique and elegant touch, so I love wearing it even without a jacket on.

Overall, really pleased with this waistcoat, and am looking to buy a second when I've saved up enough. The main downside is that it can only be dry-cleaned. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something to add a touch of dapperness to their outfits!
