Ewan Irish Tweed Waistcoat
Style
The Ewan waistcoat is a high closing six-button waistcoat with no lapels. Designed for casual layering, Ewan features small patch hip pockets, a welted breast pocket, and cloth back. The cloth back features a strap-and-buckle cinch adjuster and an inverted box pleat reminiscent of the action back of a shooting jacket. Designed to open with movement, this pleat provides additional cloth when needed. With the casual details of a gilet and the cut of a waistcoat, Ewan straddles the line between formal and casual, making it a versatile layering piece for a variety of wardrobes.
Fit
Ewan is a regular fit waistcoat with a subtly drawn-in waist. Cut with a little extra space to accommodate thicker, casual shirting. We would advise taking your usual size. Those with a larger waist relative to their chest may wish to size up.

Fabric
Irish tweeds are characterised by their Donegal fleck pattern. These small speck or "neps" are made by mixing shorter, colourful yarns into the base wool during the spinning process. Historically done to reduce waste and use up otherwise unusably short fibres, these contrasting specks and the fuzzy tweeds they were woven into have gained a cult following. Woven by a historic mill in Ireland, these tweeds have similar characteristic to Harris Tweed, oweing to their shared history as a working mans cloths, designed to survie the frigid north atlantic climate. Â

Donegal
A Donegal pattern is defined by speckled dots in the fabric, called “neps” or “slubs” produced by dispersing yarns in a variety of colours throughout the cloth. Named for County Donegal in Ireland, where this style originated, the pattern is now recognisable the world over.
